We've Moved

Bunni takes a Sweet Course

Along with the delicious sandwiches, burgers, wraps and various smoothies that the place serves; Bunni is now ready to pamper its revered customers with some enticing sweets. At the moment; they have started out with serving just scones and sticky date pudding.

For those of you who have missed our review on this Restaurant we highly encourage you to check it out on https://boodfloggers.wordpress.com/2014/03/10/bunni-2/.

The Scones, that we were treated with on the house, are basically two scones served with cream and jam. The slight crispiness of the scones together with the irresistible savor of the clotted cream and strawberry jam will make you shout “Holy moly that’s one amazing scone” :).  The price for the scones is 38.50 ETB.

As for the pudding, even though we didn’t get to taste it; it’s served with butter scotch sauce and whipped cream and costs the same as the scones.(looking forward to hear your feedback on this one once you,our readers, have a taste of it. 🙂 )

Especially if you’re frame of mind is sort of low, all you have to do is  bring a book,  stopover, enjoy the breeze, the view, your scones and some hot chocolate.

Visit the place, taste the sweets and let us know what you think….oh of course make sure you taste their smoothies and sandwiches as well. That’ll make your experience hard to forget.

The Khaldi’s-Bilo’s Race Continues

Last week, while we were walking down the road from 4 kilo to Piassa enjoying the afternoon Sunday breeze; we came across two coming soon signs of Bilo’s(next to Ethiopian Press Agency)  and Khaldi’s(across the street on the  new building); ready to grace their customers with their presence. Yes this is not something new for Addis residents to witness the opening of the two cafes in a near proximity of one another but these ones are in just a shouting distance from one another all you have to do is whirl around.

Given the fact that this stretch where the two cafes will open soon has a high foot traffic from people commuting back and forth, those who work around there and the students at the Addis Ababa University; the fear of one wooing customers away from the other may not be that acute. Well the competition between the two may not be as fierce as Starbucks and Dunkin’ donuts where the two don’t look eye to eye to the point where Dunkin’ donuts has to sell tshirts that says “ friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks”; But Obviously both will be determined enough to bring themselves to prominence.

Here is quick brief observation between the two titans.

Cup of Joe

Khaldi’s serve a better coffee than Bilo’s. This fact hands down can’t be disputed.

Pastry

Bilo’s has to take the trophy on this one even though their portions have been diminishing over the years and some consider the place to be a little bit hyped. As for Khaldi’s even if the price for pastries has sky rocketed the quality of their pasties are deteriorating. Some say the case could actually be the quality is the same it’s just that new entrants with better pastries have joined the extravaganza.

Ambience

Khaldi’s Warm and Cozy Vs Bilo’s Elegant

Customer Service

Khaldi’s has a moderately well trained waiters that provide good customer service and Bilo’s well we have to say otherwise as we have been a victim of bad customer service in various branches So….the magic wand is definitely on the hands of the management.

Outlets:

It’s undeniably true that Khaldi’s has more outlets than Bilo’s.

Customer Base

As Khaldi’s serve snacks, Juice and Yoghurt  alongside with coffee, pastry, ice cream as oppose to Bilo’s that focuses more on Pastries and Ice cream……well you our readers should do the math!

Just our two cents, What’s your thought on the move these titans are taking?

Mankira opened on Churchill Road

With such a warm and cozy interior ; Mankira has once again made itself available to its esteemed coffee enthusiasts on the second floor of Haron Building, Churchill road two weeks ago.

What makes this new coffee shop different from the previous one on Arada is; the fact that this new branch is spacious and makes you feel like you are at someone else’s living room.  You can as well sit on the outside sitting area and enjoy your coffee.

The coffee? Same as before, just terrific and makes the place THE ideal destination for those who don’t joke about their morning black coffee. The aroma that comes from the corner where they roast the coffee was just amazing especially for K who has a thing for a soothing whiff of a coffee. Unlike the Arada branch the new Mankira has not started providing a free Wifi service.

We highly recommend you our readers to check out this new branch but make sure that you don’t get carried away with the warmth of the place and stay there the whole afternoon just like we did 🙂

As for the price we paid 34 ETB for 3 Macchiatos that were served with a piece of candy  for a sweet tooth :). We were also served with a friendly waitress so we had nothing to complain about regarding the customer service.

Visit the new Mankira and let us know what you think.

Cup Cake Delights is now in Bisrate Gebriel

Few weeks ago,Cupcake Delights has opened at Bisrate-Gabriel near Laphto Mall, on the ground floor of the building where Terry Style is at. You would easily spot the new cupcakes café with its colorful lightings and decorations that is easily visible from afar through the glass windows.

This new branch has spacious interior with green eye catching and comfortable loungers around the café and white table and seats well arranged in the center. The Color combination renders the place peaceful and a nice place to enjoy each other’s company for all age groups specially kids.

In our visit we tried the Chocolate Cupcake, Velvet Cake, Mango Smoothie & tea.

The chocolate cupcake has beautiful precise formation. But when it comes to the taste it was not to our liking especially of the top cream which has rather unusual taste.

IMG_20140511_151052

The Velvet cake again has beautiful presentation. The taste is nice we enjoyed the first two three bites but gets too sweet to eat more.

IMG_20140511_151231

The Mango smoothie has flawless  smooth consistency and tastes awesome and fresh.

The customer service was good, the waiters are polite as well as friendly. We paid a total amount of 114 ETB for the cakes and the drinks we had.

TOMOCA has finally come to Bole

IMG_20140501_163534

Yesterday was the official opening of Tomoca coffee around woloseffer on the building where civil service is at. With an elegantly decorated ground floor and an upstairs sitting area, Tomoca has welcomed its esteemed customers with a free coffee and light cookies.

Boodfloggers had an opportunity to have a brief chat with the manager selamawit Abera. According to selamawit, what makes this branch different from any of the other shops is the fact that you get to be served with attendants on the top floor unlike the self-service culture on all the other Tomoca coffee shops. The price at this side of the shop also varies. If you want to enjoy your coffee sitting at the top and being served with a waiter; that experience will cost you. The price of a coffee on the ground floor is 12 birr while the price at the top is 35 birr, yes you heard that right.

IMG_20140502_081952

This shop exhibits various display items on the wall shelves and the side shelves right beneath the table where customers stand and enjoy their coffee.

IMG_20140502_081712

IMG_20140502_081405

Just like the other Tomoca coffee shops this too sells a half kg and quarter kg packed coffee. This coffee shop does not at the moment and is not planning in the future to serve snacks or food as stated by selamawit. They in fact prefer to open shops around restaurants so that people can dine elsewhere and come there to have their coffee. As she described, that is principally because they don’t want any strange scent or savor get in the way with the authentic taste of the coffee that their customer come to enjoy at Tomoca.

With just a different ambience; the coffee in the new branch is as good as in any of the shops and gives a sweet offering of odor.
